Another week and a half! I felt like time just flew by. Transfer calls...WE BOTH ARE STAYING IN POWELL. I WILL FINSIH TRAINING SISTER BIRCHETT. WOOT WOOT. I LOVE HER (':
(Ps; HAPPY MOTHERS DAY TO ALL THE MOTHERS OUT THERE. WHERE WOULD WE BE WITHOUT YOU? Boy, are we lucky to have moms)
So much has happened this past week so I'll get right to it!
So Monday evening we walked up to a lady (A) sitting on a park bench and got a return appointment. We text her before I return appointment and she said she had been reading from the book of Mormon and wanted to make it part of her nightly routine #What? We Had a member present lesson with her Wednesday at the same park and she accepted baptism. Sister Birchett and I wanted to cry and cry and cry!! The first REALLY genuine person we have met. We then had a chapel tour with a member and Thursday...The day...that our little hearts were broken. We found our she actually lives in the Delaware ward boundaries; barely out of our boundaries (we always taught her at the park in our area so we didn't know she lived there).
I wanna tell you, that was hard for me. I felt like our tender mercy was ripped right out of hands. We were pretty bummed all day Friday.
Saturday she came to the Polaris elders baptism. We introduced her to the Delaware sisters and explained that she will attend the Delaware ward. At first it was really hard to give her away, I didn't want to.
I FINALLY found someone who sincerely met with us and desired to be baptized BUT after I humbled myself, I simple thanked Heavenly Father for letting me be a part of her journey. He KNEW Sister Birchett and I would be at that park. He knew that she needed us to share the Book of Mormon with her and help her feel loved. From that experience I learned that God really does put people in your path that are ready to hear the gospel, but that doesn't always mean that you'll be the ones teaching them. No matter what, I'm so excited that she gets to learn about the gospel and how much God really does love her! I love Amanda so much. She, as well as her 11yr old son Orlando, will ALWAYS have a special spot in my heart. I'm excited to her about her journey as she meets with the sisters.
Tuesday: we were being obedient sister missionaries and we were out running at 6:30 am. As we are running, a sudden storm came and we were caught in the biggest thunderstorm I've ever been in! Then later that day as we are leaving to go do service, a wild goose started chasing us. Let's just say I screamed and ran. It's little experiences like that that put a smile on your face while you serve the Lord (:
Oh, also what happened that day is we had someone knock on OUR door.
The man was trying to convince us of the blessings that come from having cable. We told him that we as missionaries don't watch TV and proceeded to explain why we don't. Which of course, led us into teaching the restoration. It was so much easier to contact him when he came to our door rather than us trying to find him. lets just say he didn't agree with us BUT we did try right?
We knocked on this guys door and was teaching about the restoration.
He invited us in and had his wife join us. We taught the entire restoration lesson and invited them to read the book of Mormon. L looked at his wife (D) and ask her if she's ever read the book of Mormon. She proceeded to say yes and how she felt like it was true.
#WHAT?!? She had met with misisonaries years ago and gained her own witness of the Book of Mormon but never got baptized. We set a return appointment and went back Friday. We had a really fantastic lesson but Larry had some questions since some things were different from what he grew up with. We didn't get another lesson but he said he would like to attend church this coming Sunday. So hopefully they well come!
Last summer the elders who taught my best friend Justin put on a fireside and receive referrals from it. I've wanted to do that my whole mission because I thought it was a great idea! Well my dream came true. My district put on a musical fireside on Sunday and SO many amazing things came from it! It was such an amazing experiences!
Brother Henderson spoke and Sister Henderson brought a nonmember friend...who, by the end of the meeting, was in tears. Sarah Fife had her really close friend there and his dad. We ended up giving them a chapel tour after the fireside. D was the dad and he is interested in attending a baptism and church! We were able to give him a Book of Mormon as well. He didn't want to set an appointment up just yet but said we could discussed it when he comes to church! Ahh. So many miracles. It was answer to my prayer because I wanted so badly to see something come from the musical fireside.
We had another really cool experience Monday but I'll attach a video about that experience with Tim. Always knock on one more door (':
I also have reflected a lot about how President Daines explained at new missionary follow-up training that if we align ourselves with Gods will we can become instruments in His hands. It makes me think of a quote by Ezra Taft Benson: "Men and women who turn their lives over to God will discover that He can make a lot more out of their lives than they can. He will deepen their joys, expand their vision, quicken their minds, strengthen their muscles, lift their spirits, multiply their blessings, increase their opportunities, comfort their souls, raise up friends, and pour out peace. Whoever will lose his life in the service of God will find eternal life." I am trying to really focus on aligning my will with the Fathers. I want to be an instrument in His hands, I want to find more joy in the work, I want to bring others to Christ and I KNOW I can if I will give my life (especially the next 11 months) over to the Lord. We can all experience incredible blessings as we align Our will with the lords. It's not a matter of losing our identify but of finding our TRUE identity. Christ is only asking us to lose our old self so we can find our new self. I know that as we align ourselves with God's will we can be so much more happier. I've really been focusing on that A lot the past week and boy, I have been way happier! It's an inner happiness that I cannot explain....I know it comes from LIVING the gospel.
So sorry this is so long but wow, even if we didn't see a lot of "success", I saw a lot of tender mercies. It has been an incredible week. I am so grateful for this past week. I know that Jesus Christ lives. I know that he is aware of each of us individually and knows our individual worth. We are sons and daughters of the living God. We are of great worth. I love you all so much. I'm grateful for the love and support that I've been given. I know that the book of Mormon is true. I know that as we read it, we can come closer to our loving Heavenly Father. I know this is Christ's church back on the earth today. In the sacred name of our Beloved Savior, Jesus The Christ, Amen. Until Monday..
XOXO,
Sister Detamore
